What is love?

"In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation(atoning sacrifice, satisfaction) for our sins."1 John 4:10

The first question I usually ask those who come for pre-marriage counseling is for their definition of real love. The best definition I have read is this: "Love is a strong emotion, causing one to delight in and crave the presence of another, and to promote the joy and welfare of the other."  A young man, recently married, told his Pastor," I think I love my wife too much." The Pastor replied," Do you love her enough to die for her right here and now?" The fellow replied, "Well, no, I do not love her that much." "Then, you do not love your wife too much. You do not love her enough", responded the Pastor.

God's love reached down to where we were, lost and separated from Himself. The Lord, Jesus Christ, took upon Himself our humanity in order to die in our place; to become our substitute. He loved us so much that He bore our sins in His own body on the tree. He arose, and today He lives to bring eternal life to all who receive Him.

Have you responded to His love? This is absolutely necessary. He will receive, as His very own, all who do.The Bible says, "But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His  name." John 1: 12

Will you turn from that which has separated you from Him; your sin, and open your heart to receive Him into your life as your Lord and Savior? If you do, He will receive you into His own eternal family to live with Him forever.
