A Study of Prayer

Building Your Prayer Life

Building Your Prayer Life

The Word of God

True prayer flows directly from the heart.

True prayer

     •     Has no script

     •     Is personal

     •     Is unique

When we pray with words inspired by the Scripture, we are assured that our prayers are anchored in bedrock truths.

If you spend time reading, studying and medicating on the Word of God, the Holy Spirit implants the words in your heart.

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:21

Put on your Spiritual Armor, the Word of God, your prayers will be more effective.

17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people. Eph 6:17-18

Your prayers will be more effective when anchored on the Word of God

Prayers of Adoration

11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. 12  Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 1 Chron 29:11-12

Prayers of Confession

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Ps 51:10-12

Prayers of Thanksgiving

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. Ps 118:1,21

Prayers of Supplication

8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.             Ps 84:8,11

The Will of God

His perfect will gives most glory to God.  It is what is best for us, and what brings Him the greatest glory.

We must surrender to His will from the onset.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Rom 12:1-2

The Goal of God is to be Glorified

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Pet 4:11

Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. Ps 115:1

The Goal of God is to Advance His Kingdom

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt 6:33

God's Will is Christ to be Lord

This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. Titus 3:8

He Wants You Rejoicing Praying and Grateful in all Circumstances

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.1 Thess 5:16-18

He Wants You to Mature in your Faith

We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. Heb 6:11

He Wants You to be in Fellowship with Other Believers

then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Phill 2:2

The Whatever from God

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13

and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 1 John 3:22

God is Ruler over all

The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Ps 103:19

He Will not Answer Request Born of Sin

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3

If you:

     •     Walk with Him

     •     Insure He is your first love

     •     Make it your desire to please Him

Then He delights in granting your desires

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 1 Tim 6:17

The devil wants you to view God as dull and view sin a delightful.  The devil has never created anything, much less anything good.  Every good and perfect gift comes from God.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
