Christ Our Pattern


"To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, all I ask to be like Him.  All through life's journey, from earth to glory, all I ask to be like Him"


Does God really expect this of us? Is this a pratical expectation?


Scriptures for Observation


1 Peter 2:18-25


To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21


In the Greek "a writing copy" set by the masters for their pupils.  Christ's precepts and sermons were a transcript of His life.  Peter sets before servants those features especially suited to their case.  Tho follow His steps, namely, His patience combined with innocence.


Philippians 2:4-9


Let this mind be in you whcih was in Christ Jesus Phillipians 2:5


Christ Jesus left the glories of heaven and completely emptied Himself even to the death of the cross in order that we might be with Him in heaven.  This is the attitide He requires of us.


Matthew 5:43-48


Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48


Here He speaks of the kind of excellence that is to distinguish his disciples and characterizes His Kingdom. God is the Divine model.


Philippians 4:12-13


"not as though I had already attained either were already perfect, but I follow after"  Compare the example of this man's life before and after conversion.
